Sailing to the Dry Tortugas

In June 2011 my brother Doug, a USPS friend Bill and I sailed my Catalina 320 from Burnt Store Marina to the Dry Tortugas. 142 nm each way and all without major incident. Had great time and reasonably fair weather. Had been on our bucket list for years so nice to get that checked off. Took all the reasonable precautions...5 gps's, sextant, EPIRB, sateliite phone, off shore inflatable vests and towed our dinghy as escape pod.

Perhaps next trip to Key West.

Transitions

Liz will be 'retiring' next month to spend more time with the grandkids and avoid extra stress. Looking forward to it.

Wise Musings

Buying a sailboat: One of the two happiest days in a sailor's life. I've now had 5 such days. The latest is Makin' Memories a 1998 32' Catalina sloop now safely? berthed at Burnt Store Marina on Charlotte Bay in Florida. My brother Doug helped get it into shape. It's seen quite a lot of action from North Carolina to Cuba to the Keys and to Charlotte Bay and we are the third owners.
